Action Activists
by Fred Van Lente and Ryan Dunlavey
presented by The New York City Department of Education
The New York City Department of Education's Civics for All initiative collaborated with Fred Van Lente and Ryan Dunlavey to create the Action Activists comic book series, aimed at educating middle school students.
Action Activists #1 teaches about how our system of government works and how students can become civically engaged with it. Action Activists #2: Activism in New York tells the story of four significant moments in the activist history of New York City. Action Activists #3 is about famous immigrant activists throughout US History.
80,000 printed copies of each issue of Action Activists have been distributed for free to New York City middle school students as part of their Social Studies curriculum. The digital versions are available as a free resource for all through WeTeachNY.
